Over two years work on this acreage nestled beside the Peel Estuary saw a number of garden beds created, including an entrance garden shaded by large trees which was planted with Cycads, Cliveas and Bromeliads.  A swing for the grandchildren was strung from the bow of a Tuart tree, a nesting box installed high up its trunk.  The verges beyond the gates were planted with indigenous species and staked with tree-guard sleeves to deter hungry kangaroos.

Brief was to transform an empty back yard into an entertaining area with a sunken patio, flanked by lawns, and framed by garden beds.  A pattern was devised for the paving, and semi-mature trees planted.  The landscape was also designed to withstand being the domain of two large and friendly dogs.

The front yard features a native garden planted in 2009.  Another native garden was planted to the side of the house two years later as well as a backyard featuring a food garden.  Four apple trees, three citrus, a mango, avocado, fig and a ‘Plumcot’, constitute an urban orchard of mostly dwarf varieties.  A raised vege bed of corrugated metal and a trellis of pickets and stainless steel mesh was constructed and planted with passionfruit to help disguise a shipping container.

Brief was to create a food garden including a raised vege bed, three citrus trees, an olive, plus a compost system.  This central area was surrounded by a low-maintenance native garden, irrigated by a separate station for lower water use, and featuring stepping-stone pathways, a bench-seat and bird-bath.  At the far side of the house, along a shaded path, a trellis of pre-suaged cables was installed and planted with jasmine.

Brief was to rejuvenate garden beds in the pool area and adjacent to the house. After removing old plants we improved the soil, introduced some new species, converted spray irrigation to dripline, mulched and installed new lights in the garden bed adjacent to the pool. In the corner of the pool area a section of concrete was removed and planted with a lemon tree. Also in this area, a trellis of pine poles and wire was built with vege beds underneath.
